{2019 The Rules of Fair Play}

My eighth vintage of this very popular limited release blend of Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, once again, this blend oozes with Fair Play character, and feels an appropriate nod to the rumored origin of this sleepy Gold Rush era town. My 2018 "Rules" also garnered a 94 point score (from Wine Enthusiast magazine). Aromas and flavors jump from the glass. Dark red fruits, chalky, deep plummy ripeness, and a distinctive chalky, white pepper character which tastes like Fair Play, it's full bodied with a long finish. I enjoy pairing this with treats like blue-veined cheese, dried chorizo, Castelvetrano olives, and Parmigiano Reggiano. 62% Zinfandel from Cedarville and 38% Petite Sirah from the Naylor Vineyard, all from Fair Play, of course! Bottled without filtration.

Showing all the elegance of the 2018 vintage, it's still a substantial wine with deep red fruits, dark chocolate notes, wonderful texture, and flattering tannins. Surprisingly agile for a wine with so much Petite Sirah, there is true synergy with the Zinfandel. Bottled without filtration.

Named in honor of the rumored origins of our quirkily named Gold Rush era town, Fair Play.   Reminiscent of the field blends planted in the late 19th century by immigrants to Northern California, the wine reflects the character of Fair Play's unique high elevation and decomposed granite soil, rather than a specific grape varietal. Aromas of freshly cracked black pepper, cola, pure blackberry, plum, and a hint of new oak.  Flavors feature cherry liqueur, dark chocolate, soft chalky tannins, balanced acidity, and a long white pepper finish.  Big and rich, with fully integrated flavors.  Terrific synergy.  Bottled without filtration.

This is our 4th edition of this Zinfandel and Petite Sirah blend, whose name is based on the genesis of our quirkily named Gold Rush era town, Fair Play.   It’s inspired by our favorite old vine field blends from the North Coast, but made with grape varieties representative of our location.  We believe you'll find much to enjoy here.  Deep aromas and flavors include dark cherry, vanilla bean, anise, and grilled bread, surrounded by toasty oak with beautifully integrated tannins and a long, chocolatey finish.  A blend of Zinfandel from our Estate, and Petite Sirah from Naylor Vineyard.  There's beautiful synergy in this wine, and all from Fair Play, of course!  Bottled without filtration.

This is our third release of this blend, named for our Gold Rush era town and grape growing area of Fair Play.  Highly expressive of the 2014 vintage's forward, ripe, and seductive character, this wine is full of big red fruit and a subtle cafe mocha character, and a great sense of depth followed by a long, seamless finish.  There's beautiful synergy here.  It's ready to drink if you enjoy a big but sophisticated wine. Bottled without filtration.

A wordplay based on the name of our Gold Rush era town and our grape growing area, this is the second vintage of our red blend crafted to reflect the rough and tumble side of Fair Play.   The 2013 version is big and complex.  Aromas of anise, dark cherry, and freshly cracked black pepper fill the glass.  In the mouth, dark plum and Kona coffee flavors are lifted by fennel seed spiciness, and the tannins are relatively subtle for having so much Petite Sirah in the blend.  Combined with the wine's freshness and balanced acidity, it's an ideal pairing for powerfully flavored foods.  Bottled without filtration.

The legend of how our tiny town got its name goes something like this: Back in the early 1850's, during the beginning days of the Gold Rush on the streets of our soon-to-be-named village, a gun battle was averted when a bystander shouted "the rules of fair play apply here!”  Fast forward to a tamer present-day Fair Play,  where we've always wanted to make a big red blend to express the dark fruited character of our appellation.  Petite Sirah is the obvious place to start for big dark fruit, and Zinfandel is a natural to blend with Petite.   In the 2012 vintage they tasted so good together that The Rules of Fair Play blend was born. The blend is 60% Zinfandel from our Estate and 40% Petite Sirah from Naylor Vineyard, and of course, all grown here in Fair Play.  It's a big and bold wine, with Kona coffee and fresh blackberry aromatics,  and dark chocolate, black pepper, root spices and creamy oak flavors.  Silky tannins linger on the long finish. Unique and exceptionally tasty!  Bottled without filtration, 6 bottle limit.
